A fulfilling start: bringing joy through connection
After taking time to pursue studies in allied health, she returned in early 2023 and was later offered a permanent position as an allied health assistant.
Karen’s first role at Each involved leading social activities for customers with early-onset dementia, including gentle exercise, walking groups, and arts and crafts, she found joy in building connections and enriching the lives of those she worked with.
“I loved working with the customers, building relationships, and seeing them enjoy the activities,” Karen said.
In 2021, Karen made the bittersweet decision to leave Each and pursue a new direction – on that would allow her to help others in a hands-on, physical way.
Retuning to Each: a supportive placement and new opportunities
Determined to follow her passion, Karen enrolled in an allied health course at Box Hill TAFE. Hoping to return to the place that felt like home, she secured a placement at Each in 2023, which became a turning point in her career.
“They encouraged me to engage in all the programs, which gave me the chance to explore different areas of allied health and find where I felt most comfortable,” Karen shared.
Karen’s hard work and enthusiasm paid off when she was offered a permanent position within the allied health team after her placement.
“Thanks to the support and encouragement I received, I now had the chance to work in the field I’d always wanted to be part of,” she said.
Thriving in her new role
Today, Karen spends her time at Each’s Ferntree Gully and Patterson Street locations, assisting with a balance exercise program and facilitating exercise groups for customers.
“I’m passionate about helping people stay active and strong, especially as they get older,” Karen explained.
“I’ve learned firsthand how important it is to maintain your strength and mobility as you age, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see customers improve their physical health.”

Reflecting on her journey, Karen added, “Each has supported me from the start of my career to where I am now. I truly believe that Each is a place where employees are encouraged to develop their skills and follow their passions.”
Outside of work, Karen loves bushwalking and tending to her garden. “I’m a social, friendly person and I enjoy spending time in nature,” she said.
