History
Growing stronger with our communities since 1974.
Each began in 1974 in eastern Melbourne with a simple but powerful purpose – to make health services more accessible for those most in need.

Where we started
On 1 March 1974, we opened our doors as the Maroondah Social Health Centre. We operated from a converted house in Ringwood East, Victoria. Our first team of 7 staff offered:
- counselling support
- occupational therapy
- social activities.
Prime Minister Gough Whitlam officially opened the centre on 1 September 1974, marking the start of our commitment to community-based health care.

Growing with our community
Through the 1980s, we expanded our services as more people came to us for support. By 1988, our community had grown to include:
- a dedicated team of healthcare professionals
- 194 active volunteers
- a broader range of support services
- strong local connections.
Major milestones
1998
We became Eastern Access Community Health (EACH) through merging with other local health services
2007
We expanded into New South Wales, beginning our growth as a national organisation
2010
We grew through mergers with Knox Social and Community Health and Reconnexion

Each today
We've grown significantly since 1974 but our purpose remains unchanged - to provide accessible health and social care that improves lives and strengthens communities.
Today, we're a national service with:
- 50+ locations across Australia
- 1,500+ expert staff
- 200 dedicated volunteers
- 120+ specialist programs and services
- 70,000+ people supported each year.
Looking ahead
As we continue to evolve, we remain committed to:
Keeping people well at home, in their community and out of hospital
Filling gaps in health and support services
Understanding local community needs
Delivering person-centred care
Supporting you to achieve better health and wellbeing.
